CUMBERLAND- Joseph M. Voas, 70, of Berlin, NH, passed away Thursday, July 4, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was in the company of his brothers and sisters, who cared for him with great devotion throughout his illness.
Born in Central Falls on December 8 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Lemieux Voas.
Joe was employed as Ranch Manager for the Jones Ranch in Montana, where he managed all aspects of the ranch. He raised cattle and horses, grew hay, and restored tractors. A true craftsman, he built every building on the ranch. After retiring, he moved back to New England to be near family and resided in a beautifully restored cabin in rural Berlin, NH. He was a nature buff and loved to hunt, fish, and ride both horses and his 4-wheeler. He was also a TV buff.
Joe leaves his two sons, Jay Voas and his wife Jennifer, and Todd Voas, all of Cumberland; a daughter Megan Schmiedt; three brothers, Robert (of North Smithfield), Paul (of Warwick), and Donald (of North Providence); two sisters, Lorraine (of Utah) and Elaine (of Cumberland); three grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, and Riley Voas, all of Cumberland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Raymond, and sisters Teresa and Pauline.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday at 10 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home,757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the St. Theresa Church, 35 Dion Drive, Burrillville. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
