WOONSOCKET â€” Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish is busy preparing for its 2013 Summer Festival. This yearâ€™s festival is being organized by co-chairs John and Monique Cote. The Rev. Maurice Brindmore, Father Ernest Blanchard, Beverly Jolicoeur, Melissa Mathurin, Gerry Houle, Jeff Houle, Paulette Gamache, Jackie Pelleitrer, Paulette Gamache, Jackie Pelletier, Paula Berard, Bill Dundulis Jr. and Bill Dundulis III are also part of the festival committee.
The Summer Festival begins on Wednesday July 31 and continues through Aug. 3 and will run from 6- 11 p.m. Wednesday though Friday and 1- 11 p.m. on Saturday. All the activities will take place at the parish grounds at Park Square. There is no charge for admission and there is plenty of parking.
Events taking place thoughout the course of the festival include: carnival rides provided by Rockwell Amusements. On Wednesday and Saturday there will be a special allowing patrons to ride multiple rides for a discounted price. The fun continues with fireworks on Thursday evening at 9:30 pm. The rain date will be Friday night. Live entertainment will be provided throughout the festival by Mr. G and the All - Mountie Band. On Saturday, entertainer Jeff Gamache will be making an appearance. Raffle tickets are also being sold for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $10,000.
A variety of foods will be available from Cuisine Ronaldo. This section of the festival is named after Monsignor Ronaldo Gadoury who was the first pastor of the church. The menu includes: clam cakes, chowder, hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers, French fries and onion rings. Other typical festival foods such as cotton candy will also be sold.
Since 2005 Our Lady of Martyrs had been donating 10 percent of its profits to charity. Some of those who have befitted from this donation include Haiti relief efforts, Haven of Grace, and the â€œKeep the Heat On" campaign in Rhode Island that assists low-income residents with a portion of their winter energy bills.
