Three die in wrong-way crash

LINCOLN — Rhode Island State Police confirmed on Sunday that three people were killed after a head-on crash on Route 146 at 3:07 a.m.
State police said the crash was caused by Aldo Almanzar, 29 of North Smithfield who was driving a Toyota and traveling in the wrong direction on Route 146 near Route 99. Almanzar’s car hit a Hondo Accord, head-on according to state police. There were three people in the Honda.
State police said Almanzar, who was killed, did not have a driver's license and was not wearing a seat belt.
Two of the three people in the Honda were also killed. The deceased are Isabel Vasquez and Alexis Correa, both 22, of Worcester Mass., state police reported.
The driver of the Honda, Andrew Hilow, 30, of Worcester was seriously injured and is listed in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
Members of the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, Scituate Barracks, Detective Bureau, along with the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office, are conducting an extensive investigation to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
State police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the accident contact state police headquarters at 401-444-1000.
