WOONSOCKET - Elizabeth Clarke Howes, 66, of Dana Street, passed away Monday at the Trinity Health Care Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late James Sturgis Howes and Ellen (Clarke) Howes. She resided Woonsocket for the last few years, previously residing in Cumberland.
She was a 1965 graduate of Cumberland High School. She was also a 1969 graduate of Stonehill College.
Miss Howes was employed as teacher for the Pawtucket School Department for over 30 years.
She was very athletic and was a member of the first swim team of the Abbott Run Valley Swim Club in Cumberland and was also a member of the Diamond Hill Ski Team. She was a member of the Par-X Club Women's Auxiliary and the Woonsocket Elks Lodge.
She leaves her sister, Mary Lynda Goldkamp of Manchester, CT and Patricia A. Howes of Winooski, VT. She also leaves two nephews, Robert Sturgis Goldkamp of West Hartford, CT and James Clarke Goldkamp of Glastonbury, CT; as well as three cousins, James Clarke of Weymouth, MA, Kenneth Clarke of Bennington, VT and Mary Kay Harris of Atlanta, GA. She was the sister of the late James Sturgis Howes Jr.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Thursday from 5 TO 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd Ste 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
