NAPLES, FL - Rene A. Hemond, 87, died on June 13, 2013 at his home in Naples, Florida. He was the husband of Claire (Vadenais) Hemond. Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lucienne (Blanchard) Hemond.
Rene worked as a coordinator for new store openings which required extensive traveling and as a store services manager for CVS for 30 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket until he moved to Naples in 2009. A graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy, he served as a United States Navy signalman during World War II in Africa, Alaska, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Pacific. He was very active in Woonsocket Veteran affairs, serving as a trustee for Post 11519 RI Veteran of Foreign Wars. In 2004 he was a member of a committee that help plan a tribute to The Greatest Generation honoring World War II Veterans at a special celebration at the Stadium Theater. Rene was a Red Sox and hockey fan and an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed his daily walks around the neighborhood.
In addition to being survived by his wife, Claire, Rene is survived by his son Dennis Hemond of Naples, FL, his brother Lucien Hemond of Woonsocket, RI, his grandson Christopher Rusack of Manchester, CT., his nieces Denyse Hemond and Paula DePiero, his nephew Guy Hemond and his great nephew Drew DePiero. He was predeceased by his daughter Phyllis and son-in law Bruce Rusack.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, RI. Calling hours are omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, RI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avow Hospice, 1095 Whipoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
