John J. Giguere

LAKELAND, FL- John J. Giguere, 82, of Lakeland, FL, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.
John was married for 59 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Andree, by whom he is survived, along with their six loving children: Richard Giguere of North Eastham, MA; Christine Giguere of Arlington, MA; Thomas Giguere of Brookfield, NH; Catherine Tierney of Chelmsford, MA; Denise Rizoli of Milford, MA; and Jean Beaupre of Thompson, CT; his sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Richard David of Naples, FL; and sister-in-law, Constance Fleurant of Cumberland, RI. He was also beloved and will be missed by his daughters- and sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren, three (soon to be five) great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
John was born in Woonsocket, RI in 1931 to Herve and Mary Giguere. A graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy and Providence College, he spent his career as a sales engineer, traveling the beautiful roads of New England visiting his clients, many of whom became friends. John loved children, and spent many happy hours as a Little League and youth hockey coach. A natural athlete, John excelled in hockey as a young man and as a golfer for decades. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. In his retirement years, John was a proud and cheerful volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Literacy and Meals on Wheels. His smile, laughter, kindness, and sense of curiosity will be missed by many.
A funeral service was held in Lakeland, FL on August 10. A memorial mass will be held at Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, RI, on Saturday, August 17 at 10am. The mass will be officiated by Father Luke Tancrell, OP, cousin of Andree Giguere. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Haitian Health Foundation, 97 Sherman Street, Norwich CT 06360
