BELLINGHAM- Edythe L. (Paine) Hand, 83, of Bellingham, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Lydia Taft House with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence R. Hand.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on July 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Emily (Hardy) Paine.
She was the loving mother of Timothy Hand and his wife, Joyce of Pascoag, RI, Brian Hand and his wife, Donna of Mapleville, RI, Thomas Hand and his wife, Ellen of East Douglas, MA, Judith Williams and her husband, Roger of Mcclenny, FL, the late Kathleen Ackley and her husband, Alan of Woonsocket, RI and the late Robert Hand and his late wife, Jeannie. She leaves her cherished 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Thomas Paine and his wife, Heneriette of Woonsocket, RI and the late Winifred Paine, Hazel Levens and her late husband, George, Doris Roberts and her late husband, Louis, and the late George Paine and his wife, Pauline of Bellingham, MA. She also leaves her nieces and nephews.
A resident of Bellingham for 47 years formerly of Woonsocket, Mrs. Hand worked as an inspector at Fashion Sportswear and was a telephone switchboard operator at New England Telephone both in Woonsocket. She was a devoted Catholic and a communicant of St. Blaise Church and Assumption Church where she was also a soloist. She was a devout prayer warrior. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, was an expert cook and baker and studied nutrition. She loved the Lake Hiawatha area. Devoted to her family, she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, her cat Tobias, and all who knew her.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 9:00AM from CARTIERS FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. Main St., Bellingham. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. Visiting hours are on Friday, September 6th from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home.
