NORTH SMITHFIELD- Dr. Thomas S. McCooey, 91, resident of North Smithfield died at home, September 4, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was married to Margaret (McLaughlin) McCooey for 65 years.
He was born in Blackstone, MA, son of the late Dr. James H. McCooey, Sr. & Winifred (Stacy) McCooey.
He was a graduate of Providence College and Saint Louis University. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a Captain in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He practiced dentistry with his brother, Dr. James H. McCooey Jr., in Woonsocket for close to 40 years. Tom enjoyed gardening and stamp & coin collecting. He owned and raced thoroughbred horses for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Thomas, Jr. (Sally), and Martin, and daughters, Sharleen Christina (Angelo), and Anne Helms (Joel). He is also survived by his sister, Winifred Sullivan and brother, Alfred McCooey. He adored and was cherished by his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Thomas was preceded in death by son Michael, granddaughter Caroline Helms, sister, Mary Erb, and brothers, James H. McCooey Jr., and John McCooey.
Services and Burial in St. Paul's Cemetery in Blackstone will be held privately. Arrangements are entrusted to the Keene-Brown Funeral Home 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield.
