Final Farewell to the Arch of Triumph

Fireworks illuminate Woonsocket's 125th anniversary Arch of Triumph as the waterfall pours down for one final time after a celebratory cookout for volunteers and supporters in Monument Square Thursday night. After thanking volunteers Al Beauparlant, Linda Plays, Mike Dubois, Steve Casey, Mary Lynn Bosiak, Matt Moylan and many others, Mayor Leo Fontaine said of the Main Street Block Party, 'Everything fell into place and this showed what our city is all about.' He was then outfitted with a safety harness and along with State Rep. and Block Party volunteer Stephen Casey, climbed the 72 foot Arch, took a few pictures and peered out the Woonsocket double O's and waved to those assembled below. The two then proceeded to dismantle some of the large, unforgettable structure. The remaining arch will be taken down Friday.
