WOONSOCKET – Once again, WOON (1240 AM) has staked a claim to become the on-airwaves destination for Rhode Island high school football.

Beginning with Friday’s non-league game between Woonsocket and East Providence, WOON will feature a 10-game package. All of the games will air live and feature the voice talents of Lou Mandeville, the station’s sports director, and longtime high school and college football coach Mike Watters.

Upon closer inspection of the broadcast lineup, WOON cannot be accused of being biased toward one particular school. Defending Division II Super Bowl champion Cumberland leads the way with four appearances followed by Woonsocket and Lincoln with three each. Burrillville has two dates in the offing, one of which is a rare night game at Alumni Field.

WOON’s high school football coverage will not be limited to game-days. Back by popular demand, “High School Football Weekly” will air every Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. Co-hosted by Mandeville and Watters, the show will feature interviews with area coaches and players as well as discuss and breakdown what’s taking place across the state’s gridiron landscape.

Fans are encouraged to pass along their thoughts/observations via email at hsfw@woonsocketradio.com. The program also has accounts set up on Facebook and Twitter (@HSGuys).

Given the seasonal concept, “High School Football Weekly” will remain a Saturday morning staple up until Super Bowl weekend in early December. All game broadcasts and radio show airings will be archived on WOON’s website, www.onworldwide.com.
