Lionel J. Frappier
SLATERSVILLE- Lionel J. Frappier, 86, of School St., died, September 28, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John N. and Alice (Racine) Frappier. He lived in Woonsocket for many years before moving to Bellingham, MA, Springfield, MA and finally Slatersville.
Mr. Frappier was a graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy. He was a communicant of Assumption Parish in Bellingham for 51 years and after its closure became a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Woonsocket. Mr. Frappier had an extensive career in retail, working for 23 years for Falk Brothers in Woonsocket as store manager and buyer and for Kennedy's of New England as assistant store manager in their Warwick and Newton, MA locations. In 1975, he accepted a position at the former Union St. Jean Baptiste, retiring in 1992 after serving as vice president of fraternal activities. Active in community affairs, he was involved with the Downtown Woonsocket Business Association, the Credit Bureau of Woonsocket, the Franco-American Committee of RI Heritage Commission and Woonsocket's Autumnfest Steering Committee. He was past president and secretary of the Bellingham Lion's Club and USJB Council Lafayette, past treasurer and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Assumption Parish, treasurer and director of the Franco-American Historical Society, past president of the Fraternal Section of the National Fraternal Congress of America and chairman of its Family Life Committee and Franternalist of the year committee and past president of the New England Fraternal Congress. Mr. Frappier served on the planning committee for the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational-Technical High School and on the Lafayette Celebration Committee for the Commonwealth of MA. He received many honors over the years, including the Franco-American of the Year award, membership in l'Ordre de la Fidelite Francaise, Lion of the Year Award and Personality of the Year Award from USJB District 2.
He leaves his son, David A. Frappier of Bellingham; his devoted friend, Patricia A. Lamothe of No. Smithfield; six daughters, Priscilla A. Frappier of Waltham, MA, Carol A. Kane of Woonsocket, Elizabeth A. Metivier and Jane A. Poitras of Bellingham, MA, Laurie A. Frappier of Albuquerque, NM and Kimberly A. Frappier of Seattle, WA; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Edmond, George and Edgar Frappier and two sisters, Louise Pelland and Rose Morisseau.
His funeral will be held Friday, October 4, 2013 with visitation at 8:30 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jean Baptiste Educational Foundation, P.O. Box F, Woonsocket, RI 02895 or to Mt. St. Charles Academy, 800 Logee St., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
