Cynthia Bravender Walenty

MILFORD- Cynthia Bravender (Ray) Walenty, aged 74 years, longtime resident of Uxbridge, MA, passed away at Milford Hospital on Sunday, October 31, 2010. She was daughter to Florence R Smith and Louis P Ray, born in Boston on March 4, 1936 and raised in Franklin, where she attended Dean Academy. She also attended Berkeley School of Music.
She was the wife of more than 45 years to Edward Walenty and leaves 5 children; Philip Barlow and his wife Laurie of Franklin, MA, David Barlow of Augusta, ME, Linda Walenty-St. Laurent and her husband Joseph of Lakeville, Margaret Walenty of Brookline, Mary (Walenty) Lambert and her husband David Lambert Jr. of Leicester. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, to whom she was especially devoted: Philip Jr, Stacey and Christopher Barlow, Christine, Caitlin, Michael, Zoe and Colin Barlow, Kathryn, Emily and Nicole St. Laurent, Dylan, Kyle, Ryan and Samantha Lambert. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren.
Cynthia was a lifelong political activist who was dedicated to education and was especially passionate about historical preservation and local politics. Her volunteer work with the South Uxbridge Community Association (SUCA) resulted in the restoration and preservation of the Ironstone School house, of which she write a history. In addition she was instrumental in grassroots lobby to pass legislation which was signed by Governor Francis Sargent, which resulted in improvements to route 146. She served on a number of local political boards, including the Blanchard Reuse committee, and worked tirelessly through her last day to educate about the importance of local landmarks and the need for preservation of our local history.
