BREAKING NEWS: Woman hit by truck in Cumberland dies

CUMBERLAND – An elderly woman was killed Thursday morning after she was struck by a dairy truck while crossing Dexter Street at the intersection of Dexter and High Street, police said.
According to police, the woman, who’s name and age were not being released pending notification of next of kin, was struck around 6 a.m. while she was attempting to cross Dexter Street and was struck by the truck, which
was traveling west on High Street, according to police.
“We’re still trying to determine exactly where she was when the accident occurred, but she did have significant injuries,” a police spokesman said.
Witnesses at the scene said the victim suffered a head injury.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital where she later died of her injuries.
Police said the driver of the truck stopped immediately after hitting the woman and as of this morning there were no charges pending against the driver.
The accident remains under investigation.
