WHITINSVILLE, MA- Charles E. "Eddie" Stand, 98, of Whitinsville died Fri. Oct. 11, 2013 in the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Ctr., Northbridge.
He was the husband of Florence C. (Clark) Stand who died Jan. 11, 1997.
Mr. Stand was a truck driver for Hemmingway Transportation for 40 years, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Stand was born December 14, 1914 in Providence, RI the son of the late Charles and Julia (Chiaki) Stand.
A longtime resident of Whitinsville, Mr. Stand attended Millville Public Schools. He was a member of the Mumford Council Knights of Columbus in Whitinsville. He was an avid sportsman and was the manager of the Chestnut Hill Baseball Team in Millville in 1937. Mr. Stand was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Church, Whitinsville.
Mr. Stand is survived by one daughter Barbara Gunter of Millville; 2 sisters Rita Dubois of Uxbridge and Joanne Dalti of North Smithfield, RI, 9 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 daughters Patricia Bacon and Nancy Lunt; 3 brothers Alfred Stand, Francis "Buster" Stand and Joseph Stand, and 2 sisters Lillian Hicks and Cecilia Ingalls.
Visiting hours will be held Tues. Oct. 15, 2013 from 11AM-12:30 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St., Whitinsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tues. Oct. 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM in St. Patrick's Church, Cross St., Whitinsville.
Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Providence Rd., Whitinsville.
