CHESHIRE, CT - Roy E.M. Reid, 93 of Cheshire,CT, formerly of Bellingham died Sunday, October 20 at Elim Park Baptist Home in Cheshire. His wife, Audrey, of 69 years predeceased him in 2012.
He was born in Winchester, MA, son of the late Edward M. and Dorothy (Oldrey) Reid. He was educated in Bellingham and Franklin Public schools.
Mr. Reid entered the U.S. Army in 1941. He graduated from radio operators school in Illinois and officer candidate school in Miami Beach as a second lieutenant in 1942. He went on to serve in World War 2 in Europe and left the service as a captain in 1945. From 1946 to 1986 Mr. Reid served in the air force reserves retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1986.
He worked in public utilities in Massachusetts for many years and retired from the Yankee Power Co. an an instrument engineer in 1986.
Mr. Reid is survived by a daughter Ferne Simard and her husband Leo of Worcester, four grandchildren Dawn Cherie Walker, Jeffrey Caparella, Sherry Hanaan, great grandsons Nicholas Caparella and Tony Bruno, brother, Wallace Reid of Nashua, NH. He also leaves two great great granddaughters. He was predeceased by a brother Kenneth A. Reid.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at 1:p.m. in the Watson Colonial Funeral Home, 24 Congress St. Milford. burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Bellingham.
