PROVIDENCE- Ruth E. (Cummings) Jellison, 87, of East Street died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Tockwotton Home, Providence. She was the wife of Rev. Frederick K. Jellison, rector emeritus of St. James Church, Woonsocket. Rev. and Mrs. Jellison were married for 67 years.
Born in Fairhaven, MA, a daughter of the late Ralph and Winnifred (Baker) Cummings, she had lived in Woonsocket for 25 years, Lincoln for 27 years and North Providence for 2 years before moving to Providence last April.
Mrs. Jellison was the owner of Fresh Air Gift Shop, Woonsocket for 10 years, retiring in 1988.
She served as the Chairman of the Woonsocket Library Board and served as the Vice Chairman of the Woonsocket Planning Board. She was a founder and served on the first committee of "Autumnfest". She was the founder of the PTA at Globe Park School, Woonsocket. She was the first woman awarded "Citizen of the Year" by the Woonsocket Kiwanis Club in 1971.
She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer, Providence.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Margaret E. Noel of Riverside, Kathleen E. Jellison and her husband, Henry Magendantz, M.D. of Pawtucket, Jane E. Jellison of Providence and Grace E. Swinski and her husband, Joseph of Cranston; one son, John B. Jellison and his wife, Claudine of New York City, NY; three grandchildren, Matthew Jellison, Olive and Ivy Swinski; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ralph and Howard Cummings.
Her Requiem Eucharist will be held TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 9 at 10 A.M. in the Church of the Redeemer, 655 Hope Street, Providence. Burial will be in River-side Cemetery, Fairhaven, MA.
