WOONSOCKET - Clarice J. (Saumur) Csizmesia, 79, of Mendon Rd. died Tuesday at RI Hospital. She was the wife of the late James Csizmesia. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Leo Paul and Blanche (Landry) Saumur. Clarice started working at her family’s restaurant, the Chowder Bowl at a young age and eventually became the Chef and owner. After graduating from URI with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics, she worked for Stouffers as a senior dietician. She also owned and operated the Traveling Gourmet Caterers for many years. Clarice had a big heart and a great love of community and gave selflessly to many charitable organizations and civic events. She was the 1994 Autumnfest Grand Marshall, and Honorary Member of the Woonsocket Kiwanis Club and a former member of the Woonsocket Quota Club.
She is survived by her children, Ann Marie Deffley and her husband Bill of Jamestown, John Csizmesia and his wife Kelley, and Donald Csizmesia and his wife Karen all of Bellingham, Mary Frances Paine and her husband David of Dothan, AL, and Susan Jean Csizmesia of Woonsocket, with whom she lived, and eight grandchildren, Meredith and Will Deffley, Joli, Sarah, James, and Jacob Csizmesia, and Amanda and David Paine . She was also the mother of the late James T. Csizmesia, and sister of the late Francis, Roger and JeanPaul Saumur. Clarice loved spending time with her family, visiting Cape Cod, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and her cats.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptist Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting Hours are Friday 4-8 PM.
