ATTLEBORO - Norman James Bishop, age 85, of Emeritus at Canterbury Woods passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov 5, 2013 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Norman was born on April 12, 1928 in Milford, MA. He was the son of the late Louis and Rose (Bouley) Bishop and brother of the late Loretta Felice of Woonsocket.
He was raised and educated in Franklin, MA. Upon graduating from High School he enlisted in the US Navy and served 21 years rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his enlistment he served aboard 8 different ships including the USS Saratoga and USS Wasp. He served during the Korean War and circumnavigated the globe on the USS Ingersoll in 1954. His final two years were spent on his favorite assignment, US Naval recruiting.
After his retirement from the US Navy he settled in North Attleboro. He worked for the Town of North Attleboro as a Custodian, for 29 years until his retirement in 1996.
He was a loving Husband, devoted Father and a proud Papa. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and was very supportive of all their activities. An avid sports fan he routed for all New England sports teams and was a New England Patriots season ticket holder for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary (Pacelli) Bishop, son Norman S. Bishop and wife Kelly A. (McPhee) Bishop, daughter Holly A. Pearce and fiancé James J. Winters, grandchildren Connor J. Pearce, Nathan M. Pearce, Riley M. Pearce, Olivia T. Bishop and Caroline M. Bishop all of North Attleboro, brother Ronald L. Bishop and wife Patricia of Plymouth MA and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Nov 11th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov 12th at 10am with procession to St. Mary’s Cemetery following the service.
