John Galas

UXBRIDGE- John Galas, 89, of Elmdale Rd., died at Milford Reg. Med. Ctr. on Tues. Nov. 12 after an illness.
He is survived by 3 sisters; Carolina Ciechanowski of Chicago, IL, Adeline Desmarais of Uxbridge, and Jennie Galas of Uxbridge, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters Mary Galas and Sophie Wojcik and 3 brothers Joseph Galas, Frank Galas, and Stanley Galas.
Born in Prov., RI on May 6, 1924 he was the son of John and Suzanna E. (Krucovcin) Galas and lived in Uxbridge his entire life.
He was educated in the Uxbridge School System and took part in the Civilian Conservation Corp. John was a U.S. Army WWII veteran serving as a Sgt. in the European Theater and belonged to the Veterans Assoc. of America. He worked as a truck driver for Emmot Valley Trucking for many years and also for Johnson Motor Lines in RI. He enjoyed carpentry, mechanics, and could fix most anything. He was known around town as the quiet handyman. An avid sports fan he especially enjoyed the Red Sox and was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church.
His funeral will be from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge on Tues. Nov. 19 with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Marys Church, 71 Mendon St. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Mon. Nov. 18 from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA. 01701-4688.
