PROVIDENCE — The R.I. Track Coaches Association (RITCA) Invitational, the first major meet of the indoor track season, produced some outstanding efforts from local athletes Saturday afternoon.
Woonsocket High’s speedy foursome of Jalen Evans, Anthony Neal, Alex Correia and Tyler Bourk ran a season-best of 1 minute, 37.7 seconds to tie for third place in the 4x200-meter relay.
Neal also placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches and Correia took sixth overall in the long jump with a distance of 19-11 1/2.
Cumberland’s Chris Duarte earned a third-place finish in the 55 high hurdles with his time of 8.1. Sophomore teammate Trevor Crawley was sixth in the 3,000 with a 9:17.8 clocking.
Liam Hillery, a senior from Smithfield, was first in the 3,000 (8:47.9) and Shea senior Fred Gobewole copped the 55 dash (6.3) and was fifth in the 300 (37.7).
Senior Aaron Brunelle of Lincoln was sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:25.3.
In the girls’ competition, Angela Ragosta of Smithfield was a double scorer. Ragosta captured the 55 hurdles, breaking the tape in 8.8. She was also third in the high jump at 4-10.
Brooke Jenkins, a promising freshman for the Sentinels, set a school record of 1:41.6 in the 600, She finished fourth overall in the talented field.
There was no team scoring in the meet, which also acted as as state championship qualifier.
