Lucien St. Pierre
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Lucien St. Pierre, 89, of Slatersville, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, Lucien was a son of the late Ovide and Rosalba (Gallant) St. Pierre.
Lucien was a graduate from Burrillville High School in 1939 and went on to serve and protect his country during World War II, when he enlisted in the US Army as part of the 106th Infantry Division Quartermaster Co. from 1942-1945. Lucien saw action during the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. Following the service, Lucien continued his education and graduated with honors from Hill College in Woonsocket in 1948. Lucien then went on to Vaughns United Barber School in Boston, where he graduated in 1952 and was a barber for over sixty years. Lucien owned Lus Barber Shop in Slatersville and gave his last haircut there four weeks prior to his passing. At times, Lucien and his brother Edgar worked side by side in the barber shop. Lucien loved his customers and his Yankees. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Luciens passions in life were listening to music, particularly classical, French radio stations and ballroom dancing. He also enjoyed playing the violin
He is survived by his siblings Edgar St. Pierre of Johnston, RI, Florence Foster of Chepachet, RI, Elaine Enright of Storrs Mansfield, CT, Charles Andre St. Pierre of Quincy, MA and Estelle Young of Whitinsville, MA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and even great-great nieces.
In addition to his parents, Lucien was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Robert St. Pierre.
His funeral service will be held Thursday at 11AM in St. John's Church in Slatersville. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 9-10:30AM at the Brown Funeral Home 1496 Victory Highway, Oakland, RI. Burial to be held privately at St. John's Cemetery in Slatersville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucien's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
