WOONSOCKET – A man whose lower lip had been pierced for jewelry in at least 10 spots had to be taken to the hospital when the cosmetic incisions started bleeding following a scuffle with police early Monday.
Justin M. Lawler, 25, and his girlfriend, Amanda Jeanne Glode, 29, both of 425 Diamond Hill Road, were both arrested shortly before 2 a.m.
Police said they were investigating a complaint of breaking and entering when they visited the couple’s third-floor apartment. The complaint was filed by Glode’s cousin, a woman in her 20s who lives in another apartment on the same floor.
When police arrived, police said, Lawler denied breaking into the apartment and claimed he had been home all night drinking. One officer said he became verbally abusive and confrontational with police.
Several officers who responded to the apartment ended up on the floor wrestling with Lawler after he allegedly moved toward a knife in plain view. Patrolman Nicholas Guilmette reported that it wasn’t until he punched Lawler in the face twice that they were able to get the combative suspect in handcuffs.
Around the same time, Glode was allegedly moving about the apartment in defiance of officers’ commands to stay put.
She was taken into custody on charges of domestic disorderly conduct, obstructing, domestic attempted breaking and entering and resisting arrest.
Lawler was charged with assault and battery, attempting breaking and entering and resisting arrest.
Officers estimated that Lawler’s lower lip had been pierced in 10 to 12 places. He was taken to Landmark Medical Center to be treated after the openings began to bleed following his arrest, according to reports.
