WOONSOCKET — When Grace Lang shows up for work at Woonsocket High School each day, she does so knowing the students in her classroom hold the potential for accomplishing many different things in their lives.
And because of that, she also believes her special needs students should have every opportunity to find success at the high school as any other student at the school.
Those beliefs, however, didn’t keep Lang, a speech and language pathologist in the special education department, from being surprised that she was the Woonsocket Education Department’s 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year. Lang was still a bit incredulous after receiving the tribute during the School Committee’s meeting in the Hamlet Avenue Middle School recently.
“I didn’t even think I could be nominated for it because I am a therapist in the special education department,” Lang said.
