National Grid crews worked throughout the day Tuesday, methodically restoring power to many of the estimated 117,000 households that lost electricity when Hurricane Sandy grazed the state on Monday.
Several thousand customers in northern Rhode Island were left in the dark Monday, but Sandy did her worst in the southern and coastal sections of the Ocean State, where thousands and even tens of thousands of homes went dark in each community. By Tuesday afternoon the households in most Blackstone Valley communities still without power numbered in the hundreds, down from the thousands the night before.
