CUMBERLAND — Visiting Tiverton tried to pull off a magical comeback and an upset victory over Cumberland on Wednesday night at the Clippers’ Wellness Center, but the Clippers were able to win a 3-2 thriller that raised their Division II-North record to 12-2.
The Clippers cruised to 25-9 and 25-15 victories in the first two games, but the Tigers (6-8) came back to win the next two games, 25-20 and 25-16, and take the Clippers the distance in the fifth set before falling 16-14.
Erin Rosa had a big game at the net for the Clippers, delivering seven kills and a dozen blocks, and she was also 12-for-12 from the service line.
Freshman setter Brianna Frankina came off the bench to had out 13 assists in two games, Sam Mitchell added four aces and six digs, Sara Lafreniere had eight digs and six aces, Bea Caron contributed five blocks and four kills, and Rose Faucher was solid from the service line.
The Clippers are back in action next Monday with a difficult test on the road against undefeated division foe Barrington (13-0). Game time is 6 p.m.
